The company, which claims to process an extensive volume of SMS texts daily, left one of its internal databases exposed, resulting in the leakage of supposedly private two-factor authentication (2FA) codes into the public domain.

This incident, deemed akin to a comprehensive data breach, brought to light the vulnerability within YX International’s security infrastructure. The company, based in Asia, not only processes millions of SMS texts but also manufactures cellular networking equipment.
However, in this particular case, its failure to implement robust security measures led to the exposure of sensitive information, including 2FA codes and password reset links.
The breach was discovered by security researcher Anurag Sen, who found that YX International’s database was accessible online without any password protection, requiring only knowledge of its public IP address.
This revelation indicated that users on major platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Google could have had their one-time passcodes and password reset links compromised by potentially malicious actors.
Although it remains uncertain whether any unauthorized access or exploitation occurred, as the server hosting the details lacked access logs, the severity of the exposed data raises concerns about the potential impact on user accounts.
Furthermore, the database also contained email and password combinations belonging to YX International employees, turning the incident into a breach for the company itself.
In response to the discovery, a spokesperson from YX International informed TechCrunch that the company had “sealed this vulnerability.” However, the lack of details surrounding the incident and the extent of the exposure leaves users with uncertainties about the security of their accounts.
Fortunately, 2FA codes typically have short lifespans, expiring within minutes or even seconds of issuance. This temporal limitation may mitigate the risk to some extent, requiring any malicious actors to be actively monitor the leaked database in real time.
