Xavi announced in January that he would resign at the end of the season following a 5-3 loss to Villarreal at the Montjuic Stadium. Despite this, he decided to stay until his contract ends on June 30, 2025, after Barca was eliminated from the Champions League quarterfinals by Paris Saint-Germain and lost a crucial match to Real Madrid, conceding the La Liga title.
In late April, Xavi changed his mind about resigning but later made comments about Barca’s financial issues and their impact on competing with Real Madrid. These remarks reportedly upset President Joan Laporta and his board, leading to reports that Xavi would be dismissed soon.
Catalunya Radio reports that Hansi Flick has a 95% chance of becoming Barca’s new coach. He turned down offers from the Blues and Bayern Munich for this opportunity. Flick prefers a long-term project like Barca over Bayern.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Flick was never in talks with Chelsea and had been waiting for the Barca offer for months. Mundo Deportivo noted that Chelsea approached Flick about replacing Mauricio Pochettino, but Flick declined to prioritize Barca.
Hansi Flick started as interim manager of Bayern Munich in November 2019 and became permanent manager in April 2020. Under his leadership, Bayern won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal, and the UEFA Champions League in his first year.
Bayern had great success with Flick, winning 70 out of 86 games and their sixth Champions League trophy. However, Flick struggled with the German national team, which was eliminated in the group stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
