Although Manchester City secured Haaland from Borussia Dortmund for £51 million in June 2022, Real Madrid has maintained its interest in the Norwegian striker, especially with Kylian Mbappé’s expected arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.
In response to questions about the Real Madrid links and his long-term plans with Manchester City ahead of their Champions League clash against Copenhagen, Haaland stated, “I’m really happy, especially with the people that I’m surrounded with – the manager [Pep Guardiola], the directors, the board, they are a group of amazing people and I’m really happy, I have to say.
If I say this now it’s probably going to be a massive headline tomorrow, you never know what the future brings, but I’m happy. You can write this but you also have to write everything I said before. I’m happy.”
Despite having a contract with City until 2027, Haaland’s future remains subject to speculation. Reports from Spain suggested potential frustration with life in Manchester, but Haaland downplayed such notions, emphasizing his enjoyment of life with close friends.
City is keen on extending Erling’s contract beyond 2027, considering his significant impact over the past 18 months, marked by 80 goals in 84 games and major trophy wins.
However, Erling focused on the ongoing season, and deflected attention from contract negotiations. “My focus mainly now is on the pitch.
There’s a lot of games. Two days ago was the Manchester derby, now the Champions League, and Sunday is Liverpool, I think I should focus on that. I don’t think I should focus on anything else at the moment,” he stated.
