We are an Acceleration program focused on supporting growth and mature-stage African healthcare companies. Our program was conceptualized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing the potential of local private-sector solutions to strengthen the continent’s pandemic resilience.

Selected companies will receive highly customized advisory support from a world-class panel of experts. Our program is backed by a network of organizations including the World Food Programme, Africa CDC, GIZ, Rwandan Development Board, CSIR, AAIC, Ecobank Foundation, Aga Khan Foundation, World Health Organization, UNIDO, Afreximbank, and others.
We will collaborate with your team to design and deliver a customized, five-month acceleration roadmap tailored to support your company’s growth needs across three key areas: context-specific advisory, investor readiness, and matching to strategic partners.
We are co-founded by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Application Criteria
To be considered for our third cohort, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Growth or Mature Stage Company:
– Registered as a for-profit entity
– Demonstrate clear market traction and a sizable customer base
– Express ambition and potential to scale beyond your current size
2. Strengthen Africa’s Health System:
– Manufacture medical consumables or devices on the continent
– Provide healthcare services to patients, including diagnostic, treatment, or other healthcare services
– Provide technology solutions to strengthen health access or delivery
3. Home Grown Solution:
– Operate mainly or solely in Africa (preference for companies operating across countries)
– Employ mostly local staff in the markets in which you are active
– Have strong African representation in your leadership
How We Will Help You:
We will work closely with your team to deliver a customized, five-month acceleration roadmap in 2024, focusing on three key areas:
1. Context-Specific Advisory: Our team of world-class consultants will diagnose your business needs and provide tailored business advisory services.
2. Investment Readiness Support: We will help you prepare for fundraising, including business model validation, pitch preparation, and connecting you with capital needed to scale.
3. Matching to Strategic Partners: Leveraging our network, we will introduce you to leading organizations to grow your business through partnerships.
As part of the third cohort, you will receive this unique offering while also shaping the acceleration program for future African businesses. As a future alumnus of the accelerator, you will continue to have access to our growing network of peers, advisors, mentors, and potential partners.
Application Process
To apply for the Accelerator, use the form provided below. The deadline for submissions is set for the 14th of May 2024. Shortlisted companies will be asked to provide references of investors and customers, along with additional high-level financial information during May/June 2024.
Final decision making will occur in July 2024, with acceleration support defined and delivered between July and November 2024.
