AFCON: Former Nigerian international, Peter Rufai, expressed his delight and satisfaction with Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, for solving the country’s goalkeeping crisis with his impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Rufai, a former Super Eagles goalkeeper and 1994 AFCON winner, commended Nwabali’s contributions to Nigeria’s journey to the tournament final.

In an interview with TVC News Nigeria, Rufai shared his assessment of Stanley’s performance, particularly highlighting the goalkeeper’s general command of the 18-yard box.
Rufai revealed that after observing Stanley in the first game against Equatorial Guinea, he was impressed with various aspects of his play, including movement, communication, and composure.
Recalling the moment, Rufai stated, “At the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations, the first match against Equatorial Guinea, that was my first time seeing Stanley.
Immediately I assessed his performance, movement, communication, and composure, and I immediately said to myself Nigeria has been able to solve this problem, the yearning of Nigeria to get a better goalkeeper for the Super Eagles.”
Rufai emphasized that Stanley’s performance in that first match not only satisfied him but also brought joy to Nigerians, addressing concerns about the national team’s goalkeeping situation.
