The World Federation of Neurology (WFN), in collaboration with the Association of British Neurologists (ABN), is delighted to join forces with the Department of Neurology at Cairo University to introduce a one-year visiting fellowship opportunity.
This fellowship is exclusively available for a recently trained African Neurologist. With the support of the ABN and in alignment with its mission, the WFN, boasting 124 member societies and six regional organizations, is dedicated to promoting brain health globally. The organization collaborates closely with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other key partners.

The visiting fellowship spans an academic year, running from September 2024 to August 2025.
This initiative reflects the commitment of these esteemed organizations to contribute to the advancement of neurology and facilitate knowledge exchange among professionals in the field, with a specific focus on supporting and empowering emerging African neurologists.
Benefits
The selected visiting fellow will be entitled to the following support:
1. Travel Assistance:
– Reimbursement for one economy flight from the Fellow’s country of residence to Cairo and the return journey.
2. Accommodation Reimbursement:
– Reimbursement of accommodation expenses for the academic year.
3. Living Expenses Allowance:
– A monthly allowance for living expenses (covering food and beverages) throughout the academic year.
4. Insurance Coverage:
– Health insurance and insurance to practice medicine during the stay in Cairo, arranged by the hosts.
5. Scholarship Allocation:
– The scholarship amount will be disbursed to the University of Cairo, which will, in turn, reimburse the fellow’s incurred expenses.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Residency:
– The applicant must be a resident of a low or lower-middle-income country from the Sub-Saharan African continent.
2. Age Limit:
– The applicant must have been born after December 31, 1981.
3. Neurology Training:
– The applicant must have recently completed their neurology training.
4. Language Proficiency:
– The applicant must be fluent in English.
