The Joint National Transport Safety Committee has taken a significant step toward ensuring the safety of road haulage systems in Nigeria by inaugurating a new Task Force.
The National Chairman of the committee, Mr. Taiwo Mogbojuri, made this announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos on Monday.

The newly formed task force is tasked with addressing the recurring issues related to cargoes, general haulage, and petro-gas truck accidents on Nigerian roads.
The theme of this year’s general meeting was “Implementation of Safe Trucks Transportation System in Nigeria.”
Mogbojuri emphasized the importance of the stakeholders’ meeting in promoting the safety of cargoes, freight, and petroleum products in the road transportation system.
The primary goal is to foster effective collaboration among all stakeholders to mitigate accidents involving trucks and enhance overall safety compliance.
He commended Dr. Odutola Tajudeen Kasali, Chairman Advisory Board of the Committee, for his commitment and support in promoting truck operational safety compliance in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
During the meeting, Comrade Moruf Ayobami, also known as Sanwo Ayaluu, was appointed as the Chairman of Taskforce Operation Lagos State and Free Trade Zones Corridor, Ibeju Lekki Lagos.
Mogbojuri highlighted the urgency of addressing heavy-duty truck accidents on Nigerian roads, citing incidents that have resulted in loss of lives, injuries, and property damage.
He mentioned tragic incidents like the Otedola Bridge accident in 2018, where lives were lost, and numerous vehicles were destroyed.
The committee aims to use the platform of the general meeting to engage with stakeholders, discuss operational challenges facing the industry, and propose effective solutions.
The emphasis is on driving good business practices and safety culture in the downstream sector and the petroleum industry as a whole.
The Committee on Inter-governmental partnership involves relevant Federal and State Government Agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Police Force, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Federal Ministry of Works, Nigeria Shippers Council, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Major stakeholders expected to participate in the proposed meeting include executives from various organizations involved in the petroleum industry, maritime sector, and transportation, demonstrating a collective effort to enhance safety and regulatory initiatives in the road haulage system across Nigeria.
