FIFA has begun an inquiry into Argentina’s alleged “offensive behavior” in the 2022 World Cup final versus France.

Following Argentina penalty shootout victory against France, Emiliano Martinez led a mocking celebration in the Argentine locker room. The entire squad were heard chanting “a minute’s silence for…” in synchrony, before leaving a space for goalkeeper Martinez to shout: “…for Mbappe who is dead!”.
The 30-year-old goalie also made a vulgar gesture on the platform while carrying his Goalkeeper of the Tournament medal.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 11 (Offensive behavior and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, d,” read a statement from FIFA.
If La Albiceleste is found guilty of the accusations in the inquiry, they will almost certainly be penalized severely.
