ByteDance, the Beijing-based technology company known for TikTok, has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-video platform called Jimeng AI.
This platform allows users to generate both images and videos from text prompts. It has been released as a mobile app on both Apple’s App Store and Android, but it is currently only available to users in China. Unlike some other platforms, Jimeng AI does not offer a free tier; users must purchase a subscription to use its services.

Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance-owned Faceu Technology, was launched for Android users on July 31 and became available on the App Store on August 6. According to a Reuters report, the platform offers various subscription plans: a monthly plan with auto-renewal priced at CNY 69 (approximately Rs. 808), a single-month subscription for CNY 79 (approximately Rs. 926), and an annual plan for CNY 659 (approximately Rs. 7,726). Each plan allows users to generate around 2,050 images or 168 videos per month.
The platform includes basic features like generating images and videos from natural language text prompts, with the ability to refine and edit the generated content using follow-up prompts. Users can share their creations via URL or save them directly to their devices. Additionally, the text-to-video AI has an Explore page where users can share their work and receive feedback from others.
A unique feature called “Personalized Creations” allows users to replicate and customize the work of others by using their prompts, though details on how this feature operates are not fully clear. It is also uncertain whether the AI will be integrated with Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) for content creation.
Despite being primarily for Chinese users, the platform’s website can be accessed from outside China, though users will need a Douyin account to log in. Jimeng AI joins the growing list of AI video generation platforms, including Runway, Pika AI, and the upcoming Sora from OpenAI.
