For the 2025–2026 cycle, the Getty Foundation invites scholars and art professionals to apply for a residential fellowship focused on repair.

Program Overview
The Getty Scholars Program encourages innovative art research broadly defined, offering a platform for international scholars to collaborate across disciplines and professions. The program aims to develop new audiences for their work. Residents will engage with a dynamic local community dedicated to advancing knowledge, hosted at an institution that preserves, understands, interprets, and shares extensive library and collections. Scholars may reside at either the Getty Center or the Getty Villa.
Cohort Composition
The cohort consists of both senior scholars and junior fellows, with research projects aligned with the annual theme. The program offers three main grant categories:
- Scholar Grants: For established researchers and professionals with a PhD for at least five years or those with substantial publication and professional experience, available at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: For recent PhD graduates, available at the Getty Center or Getty Villa.
- Predoctoral Fellowships: For PhD candidates, available at the Getty Center.
Eligibility
- Scholar Grant applicants must have received their PhD before September 1, 2021. Professionals in related fields without a PhD but with equivalent experience are also considered.
- Applicants who earned their degree after September 1, 2021, should apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Terms
Scholar Grant recipients may stay at the Getty Center for three to nine months, with stipends varying as follows:
- Three-month residency: $21,500
- Six-month residency: $43,000
- Nine-month residency: $65,000
- Relocation stipend: $2,000
Application Process
To apply, complete the online Getty Scholar Grant application form by the deadline. Required attachments include:
- Project Proposal: Up to five pages, typed and double-spaced, detailing the study plan, its relevance to the annual theme, and how it might benefit from Getty’s resources. (Relevance to Getty holdings is not mandatory.)

- Optional Writing Sample
Applicants for AAAHI grants should also explain how their projects will contribute new knowledge to the field of African American art history.
