Apply now for the Women in Conservation Technology Programme 2024! We are looking for ten early-career Tanzanian women to participate in a six-month program that includes two in-person workshops and virtual training courses.
These sessions will equip you with essential skills in leveraging technology to address critical wildlife conservation challenges.
Program Overview
Participants will attend two in-person workshops at the RISE field institute in the Serengeti. During the five months between workshops, virtual training sessions will be conducted to enhance skills and foster professional development. Upon program completion, participants will continue to engage with their cohort, the Women in Conservation Technology alumni community, and broader networks of women and conservation professionals across East Africa.
The first workshop, scheduled for June 3-7, 2024 (arrival on June 2 and departure on June 8), will provide hands-on training on hardware and software tools used for wildlife monitoring, protection, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation. Led by field experts, this workshop will also include leadership training and networking sessions to connect participants with established female leaders in the East African conservation technology sector.
Over the following five months, participants will apply and integrate technological tools into their conservation practice with support from the program. Virtual training on WILDLABS will further develop participants’ conservation tech skills while maintaining connections with mentors and cohort members.
The cohort will reconvene for a three-day workshop on December 4-6, 2024 (arrival on Dec 3 and departure on Dec 7), focusing on innovation and impact in conservation technology. Participants will share experiences, challenges, and successes in applying conservation technology tools, defining their future goals as conservation technology leaders.
Upon program completion, WILDLABS will continue to serve as a hub for support, connection, and collaboration. Through dedicated virtual groups, alumni can sustain connections and access a global audience of fellow conservation technology practitioners, fostering collaboration and sharing of impactful technology solutions.
Benefits
Up to ten participants will receive funding for in-country travel and on-site accommodation during the two in-person workshops. Contributions to childcare costs during these sessions are possible.
Participants must commit to attending both in-person workshops and virtual programming and submit a letter of support from their current supervisor acknowledging permission to participate.
A certificate will be issued upon completion.
Eligibility Criteria
This program targets early-career women in conservation. Applicants must:
- Be Tanzanian nationals identifying as women.
- Be at least 18 years old and hold a Diploma or B.Sc. in Wildlife Conservation, Forestry, Environmental Science, Zoology, or a related field.
- Have less than three years of professional experience in conservation (excluding education).
- Demonstrate a passion for conservation and an interest in technology. Individuals aspiring to roles as research assistants, field program staff, or pursuing advanced degrees in conservation science are encouraged to apply.
- Employed individuals with a conservation organization are encouraged to apply, with supervisor support.
- Commit to attending both in-person workshops and participating in virtual programming.

Scanned copies of Diploma/B.Sc./M.Sc. certificates.
Copy of National Identification Card, Passport, or valid Driver’s License.
CV/Resume (max 2 pages).
One reference letter from a lecturer, employer, or mentor addressing career aspirations and suitability for the program.
Reference letters should clarify the relationship with the applicant and address suitability for the program and career goals. Address the letter to RISE at Grumeti Fund.
Signed permission from the current supervisor acknowledging permission to attend both in-person workshops and virtual programming on specified dates.
