This initiative aims to empower young participants with the knowledge and skills needed to become independent researchers in the climate space.

Through intellectual development, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and training sessions, this program seeks to reshape the perspectives of young individuals in Africa regarding climate change.

Program Details:

  1. Scientific Research Training (3 months):
    • Beginner-friendly tri-monthly training in research design, literature review, data collection and analysis, effective writing, communication, and project management.
    • Equipping participants as expert writers and science communicators.
  2. Climate Change Knowledge Training (1 month):
    • Thorough understanding of climate change and its intersections.
    • Concepts include the history of earth processes, earth history and processes, physical science of climate change, and climate solutions.
    • Virtual training program with diverse speakers, workshops, and group work.
  3. Collaboration and Mentorship (2 months):
    • Participants collaborate to carry out research related to climate change.
    • Research paper writing aimed at addressing climate-related issues.
    • Mentorship and supervision by academics to put knowledge into practice.


Young Scholars must:

  • Demonstrate commitment to addressing climate change in their community.
  • Be between the ages of 18-26 at the start of the workshop (March 1, 2024).
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Be a STEM field graduate or undergraduate.
  • Commit to completing the workshop by August 30 and mentoring others afterward.
  • Have access to the internet and email for consistent communication.
  • Adhere to the Climate Research Workshop graduation guidelines.
