On Monday, the Organised Labour in Kwara State (NLC and TUC) formed various teams to enforce the ongoing nationwide strike over the new minimum wage.
This decision came from an emergency meeting between the state councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Labour House in Ilorin, the state capital.

The meeting was led by the state chairmen of NLC and TUC, Muritala Olayinka and AbdulRahman Onikijipa, with a large number of union members attending.
Comrade Muritala Olayinka, the state NLC chairman, confirmed that the strike had started in Kwara State. He said that all affiliates of the NLC in the state had been told to strictly follow the national secretariat’s directive to shut down public offices.
AbdulRahman Onikijipa, the state TUC chairman, mentioned that about 150 congress members had been mobilized to ensure compliance with the strike, noting that citizens were suffering greatly.
On Monday, public schools and offices in Ilorin were locked in accordance with the strike directive.
JAMNET observed that students at public schools like St. Anthony Secondary School, Cherubim and Seraphim College, and Government Day Secondary School in Ilorin, who arrived early, were sent home.
However, final-year students taking their West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exams were allowed to enter.
A visit by our reporter to several locations, including the state’s Teaching Service Commission, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, State Secretariat Phase 1, and the State High Court Complex, showed that they were completely shut down.
