Nigeria is grappling with a growing burden of major NCDs, including cardiovascular diseases, cancers, respiratory diseases, and diabetes.
Behavioral risk factors such as physical inactivity, excessive alcohol intake, unhealthy diet, air pollution, and tobacco use contribute significantly to these NCDs, often starting in adolescence. Thus, there is a pressing need to raise awareness and sensitize youths on strategies for preventing NCDs.
Interested adolescents are encouraged to submit their ideas on the topic: “Burden of NCD in Nigeria: My role as an NCD Prevention Champion.” Submissions should focus on addressing any or all of the five behavioral risk factors contributing to major NCDs within their community.
