Public affairs commentator Mohammed Sanusi has urged President Bola Tinubu not to succumb to orchestrated smear campaigns and media trials aimed at discrediting the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu. Sanusi implored Tinubu not to dismiss Edu from his cabinet based on sponsored attacks.

Sanusi emphasized that a strategic leader should not let go of a dedicated and enthusiastic cabinet member like Betta Edu in the face of unfounded accusations and a smear campaign. He praised Edu as one of the most proactive, innovative, responsive, and effective ministers in President Tinubu’s administration.
The commentator highlighted Edu’s selfless efforts, citing her successful implementation of grassroots interventions in over 15 Northern states and some in the southern part of Nigeria within a short period of 140 days. Sanusi commended her for representing Nigeria effectively in national and international forums, attracting donor support for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Sanusi questioned why a strategic leader would allow the loss of Betta over-paid blackmail, considering her significant impact on the lives of the poor and vulnerable through federal government programs.
He further claimed that Edu promptly addressed humanitarian crises across the country, emphasizing the noticeable absence of federal government assistance during her absence in the aftermath of the Ibadan explosion and renewed Plateau crises.
Sanusi alleged that the minister’s suspension resulted from a well-coordinated negative media campaign orchestrated by influential figures and heavily financed, both from within and outside government circles, amounting to over a million dollars over a week.
