Three weeks after the Nigerian movie industry mourned the loss of one of its comic actors, another wave of sorrow swept through as veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor succumbed to the grips of death. Muonagor passed away yesterday after a prolonged battle with kidney disease.
His demise follows shortly after a viral video where he appealed to Nigerians for financial aid to facilitate his kidney transplant abroad.

Confirming the heartbreaking news to Vanguard, esteemed actor and film director Ugeze J. Ugeze revealed that the late actor had been discharged from the hospital recently while awaiting funds for further treatment overseas.
Ugeze fondly remembered Muonagor as a dedicated actor always willing to be directed on set. “Muonagor gave his all. He was somebody I directed several times. God knows the best,” Ugeze expressed.
The news was also affirmed by social media influencer and chairman of Delta State Sports Association, Morris Monye, who shared his grief on his official X account (formerly Twitter), describing Muonagor’s passing as deeply saddening.
“Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing. He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful,” Monye lamented.
“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India. This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country,” he added.
Muonagor’s plea for financial assistance for his kidney transplant was aired in a distressing video barely a week ago. It was confirmed on November 27, 2023, by the actor’s relative, Tony ‘Oneweek’ Muonagor, that he was battling kidney disease.
Throughout his illustrious career, Muonagor graced the screens in numerous films, including the acclaimed “Aki and Paw Paw,” where he portrayed the father of two mischievous teenagers. His passing comes shortly after the demise of Mr. Ibu (John Okafor), who passed away on March 2, 2024.
Born in Obosi, a village in Idemili North, Anambra State, Muonagor attended St. Mary’s Primary School, Obosi, and Oraifite Grammar School before pursuing economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), graduating in 1987.
Following his youth service in 1989, Muonagor ventured into acting, leaving his job at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to star in his first movie, “Taboo 1,” where he portrayed Akunatakasi.
