Roles and Responsibilities

The UN SDSN Youth Local Pathways Fellowship (LPF) is a 10-month initiative designed to guide fellows in shaping pathways for the ‘localization’ of SDG 11.

The program includes monthly activities with specific deliverables focusing on;

1. Understanding Urban Challenges: Learning about the current major challenges faced by urban areas globally and recognizing the potential of these areas to drive future change. From infrastructure to culture to economic opportunities, understanding how leveraging urban development is crucial for global progress.

2. Project Development: Channeling acquired ideas and knowledge into developing a project that addresses challenges specific to their city and area of interest. The main outcome and deliverable of the fellowship will be the completion of this project.

3. Peer-to-Peer Network: Connecting with a network of 550+ fellows from 180 different cities across 80 countries. This provides an opportunity for knowledge exchange, resource sharing, and collaborative problem-solving with urban leaders worldwide.

4. Expert Insight and Mentorship: Gaining insights and mentorship from industry experts through the LPF webinar series.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Local Pathways Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

– Interest in sustainable development, aligned with the mission of SDSN, including the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals and adherence to the Paris Agreement on climate change.

– Strong knowledge in urban planning, urban environment, urban sustainability, urban tech, development practice, community engagement, advocacy, or related fields.

– Professional or academic experience in relevant fields, such as urban planning, urban environment, urban sustainability, urban tech, development practice, community engagement, advocacy, or similar.

– Responsiveness and ability to manage regular communication across different time zones.

– Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

– Proven ability to work as a team player with good interpersonal skills, project development capabilities, and problem-solving skills.

– Excellent command of the English language and proficiency in the local language of the represented cities.

– Demonstrated availability of time and resources, including a consistent and stable internet connection.

– Age between 18-30 to be eligible for this role.
