Despite losing to Cote d’Ivoire in the final, Nigeria’s commendable showing earned them a significant boost in the global football rankings.

FIFA acknowledged the remarkable achievements of several teams in their latest rankings, stating, “Indeed, across the two continents, no fewer than six teams have scaled ten places or more.

Amongst the African sides, Côte d’Ivoire (39th, up 10) reap the rewards of their continental triumph on home soil, secured following an eventful tournament campaign.”

The Super Eagles, as beaten finalists, made a considerable leap in the rankings, moving up 14 places to 28th. The ranking positions Nigeria as Africa’s third-best team, trailing behind Morocco, ranked 12th, and Senegal, ranked 17th.

The report also highlighted that Angola, despite being ousted by Nigeria in the quarter-finals, made significant strides, becoming the biggest climbers in the latest FIFA ranking, moving up 24 places to 93rd.
