AI Summaries on Reddit
During Reddit’s Q2 earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman revealed that the platform would soon start testing AI-powered search result pages. This feature will summarize the content users search for and suggest additional related content. The company reported a significant milestone, with 342.3 million weekly active users—a 57% increase from the previous year—and over 1 billion search queries per month.
In addition to the AI summaries, Huffman highlighted Reddit’s AI-powered translation feature, noting its popularity in France. He also confirmed that machine translation support will soon be expanded to include German, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Reddit’s AI Initiatives
This development comes shortly after Reddit acquired Memorable AI, a startup specializing in generative AI to help advertisers create more engaging ads by identifying the most effective text, images, and videos. Red dit has also formed partnerships with major tech companies like Google and OpenAI to further integrate AI technologies into its platform.
As part of its deal with Google, which reportedly costs $60 million annually, Red dit allows the search engine to use its content to train AI models. Similarly, Red dit has granted OpenAI access to its Data API, enabling the AI company to source real-time content for products like ChatGPT, while Red dit benefits from OpenAI’s advanced language models to develop new AI features for its users.
