Former Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, stated on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu is committed to free and fair primaries, emphasizing that zoning should not be the basis for the party’s rescheduled primary in Edo State.
Oshiomhole raised concerns about the contentious issue of zoning in Edo, questioning the APC’s stance on zoning in the state while overlooking similar considerations in Kogi.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, expressed the view that implementing zoning in Edo would be unfair when it wasn’t applied in Kogi and Benue states. He clarified that the APC’s Edo chapter is not in favor of “turn-by-turn democracy.”
The controversy surrounding the primary elections escalated with conflicting claims from aspirants, including Hon. Denise Idahosa, declared the winner by the chairman of the primaries, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Two other candidates, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Sunday Dekeri, also asserted victory and accused Oshiomhole of attempting to impose Idahosa.
Oshiomhole, after discussing the zoning question with President Tinubu, reported that the president emphasized the importance of a free and fair primary, independent of zoning considerations.
He pointed out that Tinubu advocated for the will of the majority within the APC to determine the outcome of the rescheduled primary. Adams argued that the APC had allowed non-zoning considerations in previous instances, citing Kogi and Benue as examples, and should not single out Edo State for zoning.
