The Nursing Department of Harvarde College of Science Business and Management Studies in Abeokuta has been shut down by the Ogun State government for offering a degree program in Nursing Sciences without accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
On Tuesday, an enforcement team, comprised of officials from the State Ministry of Health and members of the State Nursing and Midwifery Committee (SNMC), conducted the operation.

Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, emphasized during the enforcement exercise that unaccredited programs contribute to quackery in the profession, posing a threat to public health. He stated that the Nursing Department of Harvarde College would remain closed until it obtains full accreditation.
Dr. Oladehinde, represented by Mrs. Serifat Aminu, the Acting Director of Nursing Services, underscored that a Nursing degree from Harvarde College or similar institutions lacking NMCN accreditation holds no value. Graduates from such schools would be denied a license to practice in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
“We have discovered that many institutions, including Harvarde College, offer Nursing degrees to unsuspecting students. Our mission is to clamp down on such institutions because they end up producing quacks in the Nursing profession. This is dangerous for society. Unfortunately, most students are unaware that their time is being wasted,” he remarked.
The Permanent Secretary cautioned parents and aspiring candidates in Nursing or related programs to be vigilant about institutions making false claims.
He urged them to check the NMCN website for an updated list of accredited institutions, assuring that the government would continue efforts to curb quackery in the nursing profession.
