President Bola Tinubu is set to swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on Friday, August 23, 2024.
This development comes as President Tinubu extends his congratulations to Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is retiring as Chief Justice of Nigeria after a distinguished public service career, which concluded on Thursday, August 22.

In a statement released on Thursday by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, it was highlighted that Justice Ariwoola had served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal in the Kaduna, Enugu, and Lagos Divisions before being elevated to the Supreme Court in 2011.
Justice Ariwoola was appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2022 and has since served the nation in various capacities within the judiciary.
President Tinubu praised the respected jurist for his contributions to the country, acknowledging his influential leadership of the judiciary, his role in advancing Nigerian jurisprudence, and his work in fortifying the legal system. The President expressed his gratitude to Justice Ariwoola and wished him the very best in his future endeavors.
President Tinubu also announced that Justice Ariwoola’s successor will be sworn in at the State House Council Chambers on August 23, 2024.
