The Heinrich Böll Foundation, known as the Green Political Foundation, provides fully funded scholarships to talented students worldwide. This program aims to empower future leaders who align with the foundation’s values of ecology, sustainability, democracy, human rights, self-determination, and justice.

Each year, up to 250 new students from diverse backgrounds are selected to join this prestigious scholarship program.

Scholarship Benefits

The Heinrich Böll Foundation provides comprehensive financial support to selected students, which generally includes:

  • Tuition Fees (where applicable).
  • Monthly Maintenance Grant (living expenses).
  • Study and Research Grants.
  • Funding for Research Trips and Conferences Abroad.
  • Mobility and Family Allowances.
  • Interdisciplinary Training and Career Development Support.

Eligibility Criteria

The Heinrich Böll Foundation selects students who demonstrate high academic achievement, social engagement, and commitment to Green values.

Target Groups:

The scholarship is open to students worldwide, with a particular focus on:

International graduate and PhD students from:

    • Central and Eastern Europe
    • EU neighboring states
    • CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States)
    • The Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
    • Newly industrialized and conflict-affected regions worldwide
  • Women, especially those studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
  • Students in STEM fields, particularly in environmental sciences, ecology, and sustainability.
  • Students in Economics, Legal Studies, Art, and Journalism.
  • Members of ethnic minorities and refugees.

Scholarships for PhD Students

Doctoral students in all disciplines are eligible to apply. Additional benefits include:

  • PhD Scholar Forum: Presentations on science policy and research projects.
  • Career Development Workshops: Training in academic writing, time management, and career planning.
  • Research and Conference Support: Funding for international conferences and field research.

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare and submit the following:

  • Application Form (completed online).
  • Academic Transcripts and Certificates.

  • Two Letters of Recommendation (academic or professional).
  • Proof of Admission (if applying for a university in Germany).
  • Research Proposal (for PhD applicants).
