The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State Command, has temporarily halted stop-and-book operations in specific areas of the state, including the Asaba-Benin Road and the bridgehead from the Onitsha axis.
This decision comes in the aftermath of a recent altercation between Road Safety Marshals and a Toyota Sienna driver from Owerri, Imo State.

The suspension aims to defuse tensions and provide an opportunity for training and reorientation of the operatives, as announced by the Sector Commander of the Delta State Command, Mr. Udeme Eshet.
He clarified the incident, asserting that preliminary reports indicated the driver initiated the altercation by assaulting a Marshal after knocking one down. The driver was subsequently blocked by an FRSC vehicle.
Eshet emphasized that disciplinary measures would be taken against those involved in the fight, as their actions contradicted the service’s orientation.
He confirmed the driver’s well-being, stating that the command had facilitated his medical treatment. Eshet urged the public to respect and comply with officers on the road for their safety.
He declared a suspension of operations on the Asaba-Benin Highway and the bridgehead from the Onitsha axis until calm is restored and a comprehensive orientation program is conducted for the operatives.
In a video that went viral, a Toyota Sienna driver was shown in a pool of blood after a confrontation with FRSC officers along the Issele-Azagba and Otulu area of the Asaba-Benin expressway.
In a separate incident, a new Lexus ES 350 Saloon car veered off the narrow Old Egini road, crashing into lock-up shops at Orhuwhorun, Udu local government area of Delta state Nigeria.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but the accident caused property damage and inflicted distress on the affected shop owners.
Eyewitnesses mentioned that the driver, initially seen driving recklessly along Ekrabe Road, lost control at high speed upon entering Old Egini Road, colliding with shops and causing destruction to the building’s extension and burglary proofs.
