This action took place today, Monday, following the adoption of the report of a seven-man investigative panel set up by the Assembly to look into allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.

Background
Earlier last week, Vanguard reported that the seven-man panel investigating allegations of constitutional breaches against Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, concluded its sitting on Friday without Shaibu or his counsel appearing.
The panel submitted its report to the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
The panel, chaired by Justine Stephen A. Omonuwa (Rtd), ruled on Thursday that it would adjourn for the final time on Friday to allow the respondent, Shaibu, to defend himself against the allegations.
Thursday’s decision came after Shaibu and his counsel failed to appear before the panel on Thursday.
During the panel’s inaugural sitting on Wednesday, Shaibu was represented by Professor Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN).
Awoyale (SAN) informed the panel that he would not continue with the proceedings due to a case of enforcement of fundamental human rights in an Abuja High Court, scheduled for Monday, April 8. When the panel overruled the objection, Awoyale (SAN) requested to be excused.
Chairman of the panel, Justice Omonuwa (Rtd), ruled that “the panel adjourned sitting for the last time for today to allow the respondent to defend himself. The panel shall retire to write its report as required by the constitution.”
