Fellowship Benefits
- Postdoctoral Researchers: €2,670/month for 6 to 24 months.
- Experienced Researchers: €3,170/month for 6 to 18 months, which can be split into up to three stays within three years.
- Personal support throughout your sponsorship.
- Intensive language course for you and your marital partner before your research fellowship.
- Additional financial support, including family benefits, health insurance subsidies, and travel allowances.
Eligibility Requirements
- Nationality: Non-German nationals, or German nationals who have lived and worked abroad for over ten years.
- Expert Reviews:
- Postdocs: Reviews from your doctoral supervisor and another researcher, preferably outside your institute.
- Experienced Researchers: Reviews from key collaborators and researchers, ideally outside your country of origin.
- Language Skills:
- Natural Sciences and Engineering: Good knowledge of German or English.
- Humanities, Social Sciences, and Medicine: Good knowledge of German if needed for research; otherwise, good English is sufficient.
Special Program: Researchers from developing and emerging countries contributing to sustainable development should apply for the Georg Forster Research Fellowship, which is equivalent to the Humboldt Research Fellowship.

- Doctoral certificate or proof of doctorate completion, or confirmation of expected completion within six months
- German language certificate if required
- Publisher’s acceptance notifications and/or summaries/translations of key publications not in German or English
- Host’s statement and confirmation of available research facilities
- Two expert reviews (uploaded by the host and reviewers)
