The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has given the green light for a reduction in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, lowering the rate from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh.
Band A customers are those who receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply daily.

Ikeja Electric, in a notice to its customers, announced the tariff adjustment, ensuring Band A customers of continued availability of electricity for 20-24 hours daily. However, tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
Details on this decision are expected to be released soon.
In response to the tariff adjustment, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) called on the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and power sector operators to revert the tariff increase within one week. They expressed discontent over the inconsistent power supply in the country, emphasizing its negative impact on economic growth.
The labor leaders stressed the importance of effectively managing the energy sector for the welfare of citizens, highlighting the critical role of power in driving economic activities. They urged the government to collaborate with the people to establish frameworks that ensure equitable access to energy for all Nigerians.
Despite the privatization of the power sector over a decade ago, the labor unions noted that the challenges in the sector persist, indicating the need for comprehensive reforms to address the longstanding issues.
