Represented by the commission’s secretary, Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, Dr. Aliyu highlighted that corruption has significantly hindered the country’s economic development. He urged Nigerians to be patient and contribute to the ongoing reform efforts.

Addressing the commission’s mandate for enlightenment, he emphasized the importance of public adherence to policies combating challenges related to the execution of constituency and executive projects.

Dr. Aliyu stressed that institutions like CJID and individuals play a crucial role in enlightening the public about corruption issues, citing public awareness as one of the core mandates of the commission. He advised CJID to utilize the Freedom of Information Act to obtain information from government agencies and, if necessary, take legal action when agencies deny requested information.

During the visit, Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi, the CEO of CJID, expressed the aim of strengthening the existing relationship between the organization and ICPC. He also highlighted their intention to identify ways to support the commission in tracking constituency and executive projects.

Olorunyomi emphasized the need for increased citizen engagement, stating that Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs) cannot combat corruption alone, and educating citizens about Corruption and Executive Project Tracking Initiative (CEPTI) is essential for effective tracking efforts.
