Benefits
The scholarship covers:
– Full tuition fees (at the UK, EU, or Overseas level)
– A stipend set to the UKRI level for 2024/25, with the 2023/24 level being £18,622 for full-time students (or pro rata for part-time students)
– An annual research grant of £750
The award is granted for three years for full-time students or six years pro-rata for part-time students.
This generous scholarship is made possible by a donation from The Julie-Ann Macqueen Trust. Ms. Macqueen played a pivotal role in bringing attention to the challenges faced by single-parent families, influencing public awareness, as well as policymakers and lawmakers.
The trust’s donation will fund two Postgraduate Research Social Work scholarships, supporting students conducting research specifically on one-parent families.
Requirements
Open to Postgraduate Research Social Work applicants with a research focus on one-parent families.

Method of Application
- After submitting your application for study, you can then submit your Macqueen PhD Scholarship funding application.
- The application for the Macqueen PhD Scholarship is through the University’s online scholarship application form located within the EUCLID applicant hub.
- Once you’ve submitted your application for the PhD Social Work program, you’ll receive a University Username (UUN, e.g., s1234567) and access to MyEd, where you can access the scholarship application system.
