Wema Bank Plc, a leading innovative bank and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, has announced the appointment of two experienced industry professionals, Segun Opeke and Yusuf Kazaure, to the Bank’s Board of Directors.
The appointments received approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Segun Opeke holds a degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Lagos, an MBA, and has attended professional and leadership programs at renowned institutions such as the Colombia Business School and the London Business School.
With a career spanning several banking institutions, including FSB International Bank and Skye Bank, Segun played strategic roles in areas like Consumer Banking and Corporate Banking.
Yusuf Kazaure is a seasoned expert with over 35 years of experience in architecture, construction, banking, and information and communication technology (ICT).
He holds degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, and Oxford University. Kazaure has worked in various capacities, including as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Urban & Regional Planning in Jigawa State, and as the CEO of Galaxy Information Technology and Telecommunication Ltd. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Cybersecurity at Nasarawa State University.
The appointments of Segun Opeke and Yusuf Kazaure to Wema Bank’s Board of Directors strengthen the bank’s leadership team as it continues to innovate and drive excellence in the financial sector.
Wema Bank, in a statement on Wednesday, highlighted that both Segun Opeke and Yusuf Kazaure were recognized for their contributions in various areas, including Business Development, Corporate Finance/Restructuring, Digital Transformation, and ICT in their previous roles.
The addition of Segun and Yusuf to the Wema Bank Management Team is anticipated to bring transformative experiences to the bank.
The Chairman of Wema Bank, Dr. Oluwayemisi Olorunshola, emphasized the bank’s commitment to enhancing its workforce and establishing strategic partnerships to achieve corporate goals and ensure customer satisfaction.
Welcoming the new appointments, Mr. Moruf Oseni, the MD/CEO of Wema Bank, expressed confidence in the Board’s decision, stating that Segun and Yusuf joined the bank at a crucial juncture where efforts for significant growth are underway.
Their extensive industry experience is expected to contribute significantly to the bank’s continued growth.
Wema Bank has been gaining recognition with notable awards early in the year and notable financial growth recorded in its 2023 financial report, setting a promising trajectory for the innovative financial institution and its customers in 2024.
