The Nigeria Labour Party Nigeria (LP) has announced the suspension of its National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, for six months.
This decision follows her allegations against the party’s national chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, accusing him of misappropriating N3 billion out of the N3.5 billion raised for the 2023 election campaigns.
The party, during a press conference, emphasized that it did not raise N3.5 billion for the campaign in all its accounts. Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, disclosed that a disciplinary committee has been established to address the accusations against the National Treasurer.

The committee was set up during an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee, presided over by Deputy National Chairman Mrs. Ladi Iliya. Mrs. Opara was invited to appear before the committee on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Party National Headquarters.
The party leadership urged its members to be patient while assuring that the matter would be resolved. Mrs. Opara had accused the LP national chairman, Barr. Abure, of misappropriating a significant portion of the funds raised for the 2023 election campaigns.
She claimed that only N55 million was declared to her out of the over N3.5 billion raised, with the rest allegedly pocketed by Abure.
