A former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, disclosed on Thursday that three of the individuals who abducted him in 2017 were active-duty military officers.
Ejiofor made this revelation during a live AIT Town Hall Meeting themed ‘Kidnappers on Rampage.’

It is recalled that Ejiofor and his driver were kidnapped between Okene and Obajana in Kogi State while traveling from Delta State to Abuja. After the abduction, he shared in an interview that his captors, who demanded a N30 million ransom, identified themselves as Fulani gunmen rather than Fulani herders engaged in cattle rearing.
Addressing the issue of inadequate security personnel during the AIT town hall forum, the former intelligence chief highlighted the understaffing and underfunding of the police force, stating that it is the lead agency for national security.
He noted that President Buhari had directed the recruitment of 10,000 policemen annually, a directive that was not fully implemented, resulting in a shortage of personnel. Ejiofor pointed out the challenges of effectively utilizing the existing police force and mentioned the presence of “bad eggs” within its ranks.
Furthermore, Ejiofor shared his personal experience during the kidnapping, revealing that three of his abductors were serving military personnel. Despite being recognized by the soldiers, they still collected ransom before releasing him from captivity.
