This initiative is made possible with financial support from the Robert Bosch Stiftung, and it has been thoughtfully crafted by the youth, for the youth. The project aims to unlock the potential of young individuals and remove barriers to climate finance access for African youth. Its goal is to foster innovative solutions that enhance climate resilience and help people adapt positively to the challenges posed by climate change.

ACMI is seeking enthusiastic and committed youth-led organizations, groups, and individuals with innovative projects that concentrate on climate resilience in areas prone to both rapid and gradual climate-related events. These projects should be tailored to meet the needs of climate migrants, displaced individuals, refugees, and those at risk of displacement. Proposals should align with one or more of the following thematic areas:

  • Addressing loss and damage
  • Climate literacy in disaster-prone and vulnerable communities
  • Storytelling and art for climate awareness
  • Ecosystem restoration in disaster-prone areas
  • Green jobs in vulnerable communities, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, migrants, and youth
  • Policy and Advocacy

Selected projects will be awarded funding of up to $5,000 per project.

Eligibility for Climate Mobility Youth Solutions for Africa in 2023

  • Applicants must be aged 18 to 35 at the application deadline.
  • Applicants must be based in Africa.
  • Migrant and displaced youth living in Africa or born in Africa are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Individuals or groups without registered organizations are encouraged to collaborate with registered youth organizations when submitting their proposals. Applications from other marginalized groups, including individuals with disabilities, are also welcomed.
  • Up to 5 projects will be selected through this process.

Selection Criteria for Climate Mobility Youth Solutions for Africa in 2023

  • Relevance to Climate Resilience: Proposals must demonstrate a clear focus on climate resilience in areas prone to disasters and address the challenges faced by climate migrants, displaced communities, refugees, and those at risk of displacement.
  • Innovation and Creativity: Projects should showcase innovative and creative approaches to tackling climate-induced migration and forced displacements in Africa.
  • Youth Inclusion and Empowerment: Proposals should actively involve youth-led organizations, groups, or individuals aged 18 to 35, with a commitment to meaningful youth inclusion in policy and practice, empowering young people to make a difference in addressing climate mobility challenges.
  • Alignment with Thematic Areas: Proposed solutions should align with at least one of the specified thematic areas, outlining how they contribute to these areas.
  • Feasibility and Sustainability: Projects should be realistic and achievable within the allocated budget and timeline.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Youth-led organizations and individuals, both registered and unregistered, are encouraged to collaborate with registered youth organizations.
  • Impact and Scalability: Proposals should outline a clear pathway for impact and the potential for scalability and replication in other regions or contexts.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Applicants should provide a means of verification for outputs, impact indicators for outcomes, and a reporting plan, including progress updates and a final project report.
