Applications are now open for the Mpower Women in STEM Scholarship for International Students 2025

To support high-potential global citizens in achieving their educational goals and becoming future leaders in science and innovation, MPOWER has introduced an international scholarship program focused on women in STEM. This program aims to help women use their STEM degrees for the betterment of society and the planet while also serving as role models and advocates for other women in STEM fields.

Statistics show that only 32% of STEM degrees in the U.S. are awarded to women each year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Fields like computer engineering, nuclear science, and software development should not present obstacles to women pursuing their educational dreams. Additionally, the Society of Women Engineers has highlighted significant gender disparities in engineering and computer science, where only 20% of bachelor’s degrees are held by women.

Scholarship Overview

The STEM awards scholarships annually to female international and DACA students who are currently enrolled in or have been accepted into a full-time STEM degree program at an MPOWER-eligible school in the U.S. or Canada.

Grand Prize: US$6,000
Runner-Up: US$2,000
Honorable Mention: US$1,000

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

Be accepted to or enrolled in a full-time STEM degree program at an MPOWER-eligible institution in the U.S. or Canada.
Be legally permitted to study in the country of their chosen program:
- For study in the U.S., applicants must:
  - Hold a valid visa permitting study in the U.S.
  - Be protected under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
  - Be a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder).
- For study in Canada, applicants must:
  - Be a Canadian permanent resident.
  - Hold a valid Canadian study permit.
