Applications are now Open for the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) Research for Impact (R4I) opportunities fund 2024-2026
The Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) programme has introduced a Research 4 Impact (R4I) opportunities fund. This fund supports short-term, small-scale needs (approximately £35,000) from decision-makers by using existing evidence to address local climate adaptation priorities. It is not meant for conducting new primary research.

Focus Areas
The Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) programme fund will be used for projects planned in collaboration with local stakeholders, drawing on local knowledge to support actions aligned with one or more of CLARE’s themes:
Purpose of the Fund
Past research in adaptation and resilience has produced valuable data, tools, and insights that can be used for impactful outcomes. The CLARE R4I fund will utilize this existing research for small-scale projects, helping local communities better prepare for and adapt to climate shocks and long-term climate change impacts.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Eligible Regions: ODA-eligible countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and Overseas Territories.
- Eligible Applicants: Government agencies, semi-government bodies, NGOs, and civil society organizations.
- Criteria:
- Projects must align with at least one of CLARE’s themes.
- The work must be conducted in Africa or Asia-Pacific and Overseas Territories.
- The funding is for using existing evidence and not for new primary research.
- Funding Amounts: Projects should range from CAD 15,000 to 75,000 or £8,000 to £42,000 and must be completed within 12 months.
Process for Applying
The demand will be assessed through knowledge-brokering, and research will be mapped accordingly. The R4I Hub will then match and hire researchers, technical experts, and other specialists to provide services that meet the needs of approved organizations. The aim is to prioritize local expertise and enhance local capacity, while also involving international experts when needed.
How to Apply
- Use the guidance provided in the CLARER4I pre-submission form.
- Email the completed form to Grace O’Donovan (grace@southsouthnorth.org) and Kate Cronin (kate@southsouthnorth.org) for review.
- All submissions are subject to a final review and approval by the CLARE management team.
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until 31 March 2026.
