Veteran actor and esteemed lecturer Kola Oyewo has candidly shared the challenging experience of battling prostate cancer, a revelation that has deeply resonated with many.
Oyewo unveiled this personal struggle during a visit from fellow actor Kunle Afod to his residence in Osun State. He recounted the onset of his health challenge in 2019 when he began facing difficulties passing urine, a distressing symptom that prompted him to seek medical attention.

Following comprehensive tests, he received the unsettling diagnosis of an enlarged prostate, marking the commencement of his prolonged battle with the ailment.
For over two years, Oyewo relied on his medical team, who worked tirelessly to save his life. He noted that at least six of his friends had succumbed to similar conditions.
The seasoned actor, renowned for his outstanding performances on stage and screen, openly shared the emotional impact of receiving such sobering news. This revelation occurred while his wife was concurrently grappling with her own health issues, battling a stroke since 2017.
Oyewo explained, “As of the time I received the news of my health condition, my wife was down with a stroke. She had been on it since 2017, but I had no choice but to tell her about my situation. We both wept that day as I bade her bye to begin our journey.”
Undaunted by the challenging road ahead, Oyewo underwent a series of surgeries aimed at managing his condition. The initial procedure aimed to facilitate urine passage artificially, a critical step in his treatment. Despite being informed of an additional surgery that would impact his sexual activity, Oyewo remained resolute, prioritizing his health.
In his words, he expressed, “I didn’t care about having sex anymore; all I cared about was getting better. I have children, and I am already an old man. Why should I be bothered about sex at this age? I just want to get better and be fine.”
Oyewo underwent the surgeries and has been recovering as he has accepted his fate to pass urine artificially.
The path to recovery has been challenging, fraught with uncertainty and suffering. Yet, amid the trials, Oyewo maintained an unwavering sense of gratitude for the gift of life.
Reflecting on the challenges he has conquered, he stated, “I told those close to me not to mention my situation to the public or ask people to donate funds for me because I can take care of myself and my children are also capable of taking care of me.”
As he continues navigating the complexities of his health journey, Oyewo shared that he has resumed going to filming locations and will do so until it is time for God’s call.
