The State Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, had earlier sent invitations to concerned stakeholders, notifying them of the meeting scheduled for March 1st and 3rd at the party’s secretariat in Makurdi.

However, the meeting was abruptly halted as heavily armed security personnel were observed patrolling the two routes leading to the secretariat on JS Tarka Way, preventing party chieftains from accessing the premises.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Paul Biam, had issued a statement to the State Commissioner of Police, banning all political meetings or gatherings throughout Benue State.

“I write to inform you that the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has banned all political gatherings in any form, be it inter or intra party or groups in Benue State until further notice,” Biam stated. The ban was deemed necessary due to intelligence received on the security situation in the state, and the police were charged to enforce the directives.

Reports from the venue indicate a large number of Governor Alia’s supporters ensuring compliance with the Governor’s directive by the security personnel.
