Jenna Dewan’s request for compensation from Channing Tatum’s earnings from the Magic Mike franchise marks a new development in their ongoing divorce proceedings.

According to documents obtained by NBC News, Jenna’s legal team argues that Channing’s involvement in the Magic Mike franchise, which became a lucrative cultural phenomenon, should be considered part of the marital assets due to its development and co-financing during their marriage. They assert that Channing and his financial team utilized complex business structures to diminish the profits from Magic Mike.
Jenna, who was declared legally single in 2019, also alleges that Channing failed to disclose business opportunities related to Magic Mike after they split in 2018.
In response, Channing’s lawyers contend that he has been actively involved in managing the franchise’s investments and transactions. They characterize Jenna’s claims as an attempt to prolong the divorce proceedings.
The former couple has submitted a list of potential witnesses, including Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh and other business partners of Channing.
Additionally, Channing has included Jenna’s current fiancé, Steven Kazee, to testify about their living arrangements and joint expenses.
Despite their legal separation in 2019, Channing and Jenna, who starred together in the film Step Up, continue to dispute financial matters as they work through their divorce.
In April 2024, Jenna filed documents, requesting that both she and Tatum testify on all matters related to their marriage, including business and financial activities.
She also presented a preliminary exhibit list seeking personal and corporate tax returns along with other financial records, including those related to the earnings from the Magic Mike franchise.
Alleging that they jointly acquired the Magic Mike intellectual property, Jenna accuses Tatum of placing its earnings into an irrevocable trust and transferring licensing rights to a third party without her knowledge, as reported by People citing court documents. However, Tatum refuted her claim in his filing.
According to the documents, “The Magic Mike intellectual property was created during marriage, and various entities related to the intellectual property were established during marriage and after separation.”
It further states that Tatum has actively worked to enhance the Magic Mike intellectual property and associated entities since their separation, which he contends establishes his separate property interest in them.
Tatum’s attorney notes in the filing that the court will need to determine the division between the community interest and Tatum’s separate property interest in the intellectual property and related entities, taking into account his efforts post-separation.
In Jenna’s preliminary witness list, she includes several individuals who collaborated on the Magic Mike trilogy with Tatum, such as director Steven Soderbergh and producers Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan.
Meanwhile, in his preliminary witness list filed the day after Jenna submitted her documents, Tatum includes Jenna’s fiancé, Steve Kazee, who is expecting a child with her.
