“Oppenheimer” actor Robert Downey Jr. and “The Holdovers” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph secured their first Academy Oscars 2024 Awards on Sunday as Hollywood honored the finest performances in film.
Downey, previously nominated in 1993 before facing setbacks in his career due to drug use, was announced as the best supporting actor for his portrayal of the professional adversary of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Playfully, Downey quipped, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order,” before expressing gratitude to his wife Susan, whom he humorously referred to as finding him as a “snarly rescue pet” and “loving him back to life.”
Randolph earned the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as a grieving mother and cafeteria worker in the comedy set within a New England boarding school.
Tearfully accepting her award, she remarked, “For so long, I always wanted to be different, and now I realize I just need to be myself. I thank you for seeing me.”
The British Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest” was honored as the best international feature, with director Jonathan Glazer addressing the Israel-Gaza conflict in his acceptance speech.
He expressed the need to resist the hijacking of Jewishness and the Holocaust by an occupation leading to conflict for many innocent people.
“The Boy and the Heron,” a semi-autobiographical film by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki about grief, claimed the title of the best-animated feature.
The winners were selected by the approximately 10,500 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
