On Monday, the Defence Headquarters of the Nigerian Army refuted allegations made by an online media organization claiming that the Presidential Guards Brigade had been placed on high alert due to suspicious activities around the seat of power, suggesting concerns of a coup plot.
Brigadier Gen Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, issued a statement dismissing the claims.

The statement clarified that the allegation of the Guards Brigade being on high alert due to unusual movements indicating a coup plot in Nigeria was entirely false.
It highlighted that the Guards Brigade has a statutory responsibility to protect the seat of power (the Presidency), including the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings. As a result, the Guards Brigade has consistently maintained a state of high alert to effectively carry out its assigned tasks.
The Defence Headquarters emphasized the Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to protecting and sustaining democracy in Nigeria, as reiterated by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
The statement condemned the unfounded assertion, considering it a product of the publisher’s imagination, and urged the public to disregard it. Additionally, the Defence Headquarters called on relevant security agencies to take appropriate action against Sahara Reporters for what it deemed an unpatriotic action.
Moreover, the Defence Headquarters announced its intention to seek legal redress on the matter, stating that the false claims aimed to create unnecessary tension in the country.
