Lafene, and the TUC State Chairman, Ibrahim Gana, the organized labor stated that the industrial action would persist until the government resolves all outstanding disputes with the organized labor.
Among the demands, the labor has called for the reversal of all political appointments as Executive Directors of Finance, Operations, and Administration in various agencies.
It further requested the annulment of appointments for chairmen, members, and permanent commissioners of the Local Government Service Commission and Civil Service Commission, along with the appointments of directors-general in certain agencies.
Additionally, organized labor urged the government to issue a clear statement regarding the payment of the wage award.
Warning against appointing unqualified civil servants as permanent secretaries, the labor demanded the withdrawal of the appointment of a vice principal on secondment as a permanent secretary to allow for career progression from within.
Expressing concern about the recent primary school debate in Agaie, where a pupil allegedly used vulgar and violent language against the federal government, the organized labor cautioned the government against victimizing teachers and educational sector members.
The memo stated, “We wish to formally inform the government that effective 8 am on Wednesday, the 21st of February, 2024, Niger State workers shall commence an indefinite strike action until our demands are comprehensively met.”
