The Director General and CEO of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, has highlighted key areas where the Indian government could provide support to Nigeria’s MSMEs through technology and knowledge transfer.
This revelation came during a meeting between the Director General and the Indian High Commissioner, Mr. G. Balasubramanian, at the Indian High Commission.

Mr. Odii emphasized that with proper support, Nigerian MSMEs have the potential to supply India’s entire grain requirements. He urged the Indian High Commissioner to explore MSME exchange programs, allowing Nigerian SMEs to enhance agricultural production capacity by adopting modern technologies prevalent in India.
Mr. Balasubramanian acknowledged the significant potential in Nigeria, citing the ample cattle population capable of meeting Nigeria’s dairy needs. Both parties agreed on the necessity of reinforcing knowledge and technology transfer, with plans for a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The discussion narrowed down to four sectors earmarked as pilot initiatives in the MSME partnership. These sectors include the dairy industry, grains/millets value chain, movie industry, and leather industry.
This initiative complements the ongoing Knowledge Transfer Program implemented by SMEDAN. The meeting concluded that cultural and tourism exchange platforms could translate into trade benefits for both countries if explored. MSMEs are encouraged to stay tuned for further developments in SME development between the two nations.
