The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, stated that building roads with concrete will contribute to earning carbon credits and support President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to combat climate change.
Umahi made this announcement on Saturday in Lagos while inspecting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and other road projects in areas such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Dangote Tax Credit Route, and Eleko.

He explained, “There is significant carbon credit potential in these road projects. We are also planning to install solar lights.
“All these roads are being built with concrete because it produces less emissions due to the vehicle traction on concrete surfaces. Asphalt generates a lot of heat and negatively impacts our environment.
“This demonstrates that President Tinubu is dedicated to mitigating climate change effects, and I am pleased with his initiatives. The president will collaborate with us to maximize the carbon credits we can obtain through this innovation.”
The minister highlighted that the lights on the Third Mainland Bridge will be entirely replaced with solar-powered lights. He added, “We will install CCTV cameras and solar lights to save energy.”
Umahi praised Hitech Construction Company Ltd. for their high-quality work on the road construction projects.
“I challenge any other company to match Hitech in terms of quality, equipment, and adaptability to our changes,” he said.
