In Lagos, the organized workers (Labour Union) left the discussion about the Minimum wage after saying no to the government and private companies’ new wage suggestions.
The government proposed ₦48,000, while private companies suggested ₦54,000. The workers didn’t like the government’s offer because it was too low and didn’t match what they needed.

They said it would make things worse for workers who already get ₦30,000 as the minimum wage. The workers wanted more proof from the government to support their offer.
The workers felt like the negotiation wasn’t fair because the government and private companies didn’t seem serious about finding a good solution. The workers decided to leave the discussion because they didn’t want to agree to a lower wage. They said they’d keep talking if the government showed they were serious about finding a fair solution.
They asked the government to reconsider and come back to the table with a better offer that respects workers’ contributions to the country.
They suggested a wage of ₦615,000 based on evidence and data. They also talked about how some governors were not paying the old minimum wage and how the government didn’t seem prepared for the discussion.
The private companies asked the workers to come back to the negotiation table because leaving before the discussion started wasn’t helpful. They said all parties should talk and find a solution together. The workers’ leaders didn’t confirm if they would go back to the meeting.
