The suspended national treasurer of the Labour Party Nigeria, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, has strongly criticized the party’s decision to suspend her, asserting that the sanction appears to have been premeditated and did not adhere to the party‘s established rules.
Opara had previously made serious allegations against the national chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, accusing him of misappropriating over N3 billion out of the N3.5 billion raised for the 2023 election campaigns.

In response to her suspension, Opara explained that she received a letter of invitation at 9:25 pm on Tuesday. Given her residence outside Abuja, attending the 10 am appearance deadline on Wednesday proved impossible, leading to her suspension at noon on the same day.
She believed the entire process seemed planned and emphasized her commitment to revealing the truth behind the allegations.
During a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Opara had made startling claims, alleging that proceeds from the sale of forms from Barr. Abure’s home state of Edo was diverted to his private accounts.
She further asserted that only N55 million out of the over N3.5 billion raised was declared to her, with the remainder allegedly pocketed by the national chairman.
The allegations have stirred controversy within the Labour Party, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the party’s financial affairs and its officials’ conduct.
