Global ICT company Huawei has announced its 2024 digital talent development initiatives, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to nurturing talent in the ICT sector and providing individuals with skills to contribute to societal advancement.
These initiatives were unveiled at the Huawei Talent Summit during the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024.

The initiatives include the global ITU-Huawei Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme, a joint project between Huawei and UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), and Huawei Cloud’s startups programme.
Themed “I C Talent: Nurturing Excellence in a Digital World,” the summit featured representatives from international organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO, government officials from Greece, Kenya, and Mexico, female industry leaders, entrepreneurs from the Huawei Cloud Startup Programme, and participants in Seeds for the Future and various competitions.
The ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership Programme, in partnership with Huawei, was launched by the Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, represented by Mario Mankiewicz, ITU’s Director of Radiocommunication Bureau.
The program invites youth aged 18 to 28 to submit ideas for community projects addressing the digital divide, offering funding, mentoring, and training for implementation.
Isabell Kempf, Director of UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), announced a project aimed at strengthening the digital skills of literacy educators in multiple countries within the Global Alliance for Literacy.
The smartphone company as an associate member of UNESCO’s Global Alliance for Literacy, is a partner in this initiative, benefiting member countries such as Nigeria.
The project aims to support 10,000 youth and adult literacy teachers, trainers, and managers in effectively using technology in literacy teaching and professional development.
The smartphone company also revealed its sponsorship of the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) as part of efforts to encourage more girls to enter the technology sector, promote digital inclusion, and advance gender equality in technology fields.
Vicky Zhang, Vice President of the smartphone company’s Corporate Communications Department, expressed Huawei’s commitment to cultivating digital talent globally and highlighted the importance of collaborative projects with partners in shaping an inclusive digital future.
The summit also saw the release of a digital badge for the smartphone company’s ICT Academy, allowing teachers and students to showcase their teaching and learning achievements on platforms like LinkedIn.
