Eligibility Criteria for 2025
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be employed by a public authority or private company in a developing country, focusing on development-oriented projects.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (typically four years) in a related field.
- Have completed their degree with above-average results (top third of class) and have at least two years of relevant professional experience.
- Have earned their academic degree within the past six years.
- Not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months by the application deadline.
Required Documents
Applicants must provide:
- Completed and signed checklist
- DAAD application form (“Application for a research/study scholarship”)
- Curriculum vitae (reverse chronological order, Europass template)
- Motivation letter detailing academic, professional, and personal reasons for application
- Certificate(s) of Employment showing at least two years of work experience post-Bachelor’s, ideally with a re-employment guarantee from the current employer
- Proof of language skills:
English: IELTS or TOEFL (institutional TOEFL not accepted)
German: Required for courses taught in German - Higher education degree certificates

- APS Certificate (for applicants from China)
