Genevieve Nnaji began acting when she was just 8 years old in a popular TV show called Ripples. At 19, she entered the Nigerian film industry with the movie Most Wanted. Some of her other movies include Last Party, Mark of the Beast, and Ijele. In 2010, she acted in the award-winning film Ijé: The Journey. In 2009, she was one of the highest-paid female actors in Nollywood.

Because of her significant role in Nigerian movies, she became the first actor to win Best Actress at the 2001 City People’s Awards, which usually honored politicians and big businesses. She also became the first actor to receive the Best Actress award from the Censors Board of Nigeria in 2003.

On September 7, 2018, Netflix acquired her first directed movie, Lionheart, making it the first Netflix original film from Nigeria. The movie premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Genevieve also starred in Farming, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s debut film, alongside Kate Beckinsale, Damson Idris, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
