About the Fellowship
The Policy Leader Fellowship (PLF) is a residential program aimed at individuals with hands-on experience in policy-making across the globe. Uniquely, the fellowship does not require an academic background, focusing instead on practical experience and contributions to the policy field. Fellows will:
- Engage with the STG and EUI faculty.
- Learn from a dynamic cohort of peers.
- Develop policy recommendations and practical solutions to critical transnational issues.
- Participate in professional skills training and EUI academic activities.
The fellowship also enriches the STG community by allowing fellows to contribute their expertise to teaching, training, and collaborative projects.
Duration Options
Fellowships are available for either five or ten months:
- Five months:
- September 2025 – January 2026
- February 2026 – June 2026
- Ten months:
- September 2025 – June 2026
Eligibility Requirements
Ideal candidates will:
- Be a mid-career professional with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Demonstrate excellence and potential in their field, as evidenced by their CV and achievements.
- Be self-driven, and capable of working independently to accomplish fellowship goals.
- Be open-minded and willing to engage in discussions beyond their areas of expertise.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Accomplishments and Potential: Assessed based on professional contributions to a policy field.
- Focus Area: Alignment with STG programs and faculty research is preferred.
- Fellowship Work Plan: Evaluated for its feasibility, transnational relevance, and potential impact.
- Motivation: Applicants should articulate how the fellowship will enhance their careers and how they will contribute to the STG.
- Diversity: The program ensures thematic, geographic, and gender diversity among fellows.
Residency Requirement
Fellows must reside in Florence throughout the fellowship period, actively participating in EUI/STG activities. Remote participation is not allowed, although short trips outside Florence are permitted.
Financial Benefits
- Monthly Grant: €2,500
- If fellows receive other income, the grant may be adjusted (minimum €1,750).
- Travel Reimbursement: Up to €1,200 for round-trip travel to and from Florence.
- Includes first-class rail or economy air fare; taxi expenses are excluded.
- Family Allowances:
- Household Allowance: Up to €300/month for a partner residing in Florence with an income below €2,000/month.
- Dependent Child Allowance: €200/month per child (subject to proof of eligibility).

- Applications must be submitted online via the EUI application portal.
- Deadline: 24 January 2025 (14:00 CET).
- Early registration is encouraged to allow referees sufficient time to submit reference letters.
