Course Overview

Created by the UNDP SDG Integration team and UNICEF, with support from UNSSC, this course is part of the Integrated Policy Practitioner’s Network, co-led by nine UN agencies. It equips participants with:

  • Systems Thinking: Recognize the interconnected nature of SDG challenges and solutions.
  • Cross-Sectoral Analysis: Learn to assess how policies impact various sectors.
  • Multi-Dimensional Problem Solving: Use tools that tackle complex challenges with a comprehensive approach.

Participants will also gain practical insights to help UN Country Teams and governments find pathways for advancing SDG progress, even in difficult post-crisis situations.

This course helps practitioners develop integrated solutions to handle complex challenges, ensuring lasting progress. It trains UN staff in a standardized approach and essential tools for offering SDG policy integration support to governments.

Policy integration has become vital for countries to meet the SDGs. As the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted development paths during the Decade of Action, unified efforts from UN agencies are more crucial than ever to provide coherent expertise and policy guidance.

Developed by UNDP and UNICEF, supported by UNSSC, this course is part of the Integrated Policy Practitioners’ Network framework. Course participants are encouraged to join this network for ongoing discussions on relevant tools and methods.

Objectives

By completing this course, participants will:

  • Understand and apply UN policy integration frameworks in development.
  • Be aware of practical tools and methods to help governments address complex development issues using systems-thinking and cross-sectoral approaches.
  • Work in inter-agency and interdisciplinary teams to support UN Country Teams and governments with integrated Sustainable strategies.
  • Create policy options that address challenges and leverage synergies across sectors to accelerate Sustainable progress.
  • Implement integrated policy approaches in post-emergency, humanitarian, or recovery contexts.

Course Methodology

Participants must complete four modules and achieve an 80% passing grade on the final quiz to receive a certificate. The course takes about 4.5 hours to complete.

Course Modules

Module 1: Introduction to integrated policy approaches and course objectives.
Module 2: Tools for assessing how national plans and budgets align with the SDGs.
Module 3: Strategies for identifying leverage points to speed up SDG progress.
Module 4: Methods for promoting coherence and coordination in SDG planning and monitoring.

Target Audience

This course is open to UN staff, government officials, development practitioners, civil society members, private sector participants, academics, and foundations.

Cost of Participation

The course is available free of charge.
